Your New Role Looks Like This:

We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Tax Compliance & Assurance Accountant to support the delivery of high-quality tax outcomes across income tax, GST, FBT, and tax effect accounting. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working across complex tax environments, improving processes through automation, and learning from a supportive and high-performing tax team.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that Australian Unity meets its tax compliance obligations and maintains strong governance across all areas of taxation. You’ll assist in preparing and reviewing tax returns, consolidations, and tax effect accounting calculations, while also identifying opportunities to streamline and enhance compliance through technology and innovation.

You’ll gain exposure across:

  • Income tax, GST, and FBT reporting and compliance
  • Tax effect accounting and group consolidations
  • Automation and process improvement initiatives within the tax function
  • Assurance reviews and engagement with external auditors and the ATO
  • Diverse businesses spanning Home Health, Residential Aged Care and Wealth & Capital Markets.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Tax Manager to meet all tax compliance obligations within legislated timeframes, including income tax, GST, and FBT returns.
  • Prepare and review income tax workpapers, supporting computations, and reconciliations for entities within the Australian Unity Group.
  • Compile and consolidate group statutory tax accounting and tax return computations in line with the Group Tax Risk Management Framework.
  • Manage the preparation of tax effect accounting calculations, ensuring the accuracy of deferred tax balances and tax expense disclosures for statutory reporting.
  • Respond to queries from external auditors and support ATO combined assurance reviews.
  • Identify and implement improvements — including automation and AI-driven efficiencies — within tax compliance processes.
  • Maintain accuracy of tax data across financial systems and digital tools, ensuring compliance and integrity.
  • Manage tax reporting software and documentation, including chart of accounts tax sensitisation and policy updates.
  • Collaborate with finance and business unit teams to resolve issues, ensure compliance, and communicate tax information clearly.
  • Support the delivery of tax training programs for finance and business stakeholders.

About you

You’re analytical, proactive, and eager to broaden your technical tax expertise within a collaborative team. You’re comfortable working with detail and deadlines, and you’re curious about how technology can make tax reporting smarter and more efficient.

You’ll also bring:

  • A degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field
  • CA/CPA qualification
  • Solid understanding of Australian income tax, GST, and FBT legislation
  • Experience in tax effect accounting and consolidations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Interest or experience in automation tools or digital tax processes (advantageous)
