The Opportunity
The Senior Operational Resilience and Project Risk Manager is a senior second line accountability role, responsible for the provision of expert, independent and commercially minded risk and compliance advice across Group Business Continuity Management (BCM), Operational Resilience, and Project Delivery Risk.
This includes managing the overall Group BCM program and providing independent oversight, monitoring, and advice across business resilience and project assurance activities, collaborating with the Head of Group Operational Resilience and Information Technology Risk and the broader leadership team to ensure the Group’s resilience and project assurance programs are fit for purpose and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Operational Resilience and Project Risk Management Advice:
- Provide expert, independent and commercially minded risk and compliance advice to all levels of the business, to support and influence informed decision-making and compliance with regulatory obligations including compliance with APRA and other regulatory standards.
- Provide second line oversight, review and challenge of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs), Business Impact Analyses (BIAs), recovery objectives (including RTO/RPO where applicable), ), material service provider (MSP) arrangements, outsourcing or offshoring arrangements for non MSPs, and testing programs to support a fit-for-purpose resilience capability as well as compliance to regulatory requirements.
- Implement and optimise operational resilience and project risk and compliance frameworks, policies and processes, in alignment with Group risk and compliance frameworks, including risk profiling and risk management.
- Coordinate and run second line risk and compliance monitoring, controls assurance and reporting activities for operational resilience and project risk including analysis of trends, emerging risks and systemic issues.
- Conduct in-flight reviews and thematic assurance activities (e.g., defects management, testing, stage gate reviews) aligned to the business, platform portfolio and risk profile
Manage the Group BCM program
- Manage the Group Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Crisis Management processes by overseeing the implementation of the program and providing subject matter expertise and guidance across the Group
- Support the development and ongoing improvement of the BCM program including policies, guidance, and training to ensure they meet regulator expectations and continue to be fit for purpose given Australian Unity’s strategy and the external environment.
- Manage the periodic review of artefacts to ensure the business continuity plans & procedures are regularly updated in line with executed organisational, application of infrastructure changes and refreshed accordingly within the BCM tool (such as Archer).
- Facilitate and coordinate the planning, conduct and debrief on Group wide BCP tests & exercises to test the adequacy of the existing plans & strategies.
- Prepare reports for executive and board level committees on lessons learned from BCM and Crisis Management testing.
You will bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications with a minimum of 10 years of experience in business continuity management from a professional services perspective or from a regulated industry (preferably APRA regulated). 1st or 2nd line risk management experience will be an added advantage.
- Relevant professional certifications or qualifications in business continuity management or risk management are desirable.
- A strong working knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework relevant to Australian Unity’s business portfolio including information security, outsourcing and cloud security requirements.
- A strong working knowledge of common BCM Frameworks such as ISO 22301 or similar.
- Exposure in data privacy and governance including ethical usage considerations is desirable
- Demonstrated ability to influence others, drive cultural change and gain support for relevant initiatives.
- Experience leading teams through change and working agilely in complex environments.
