As Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of the Residential Aged Care (RAC) business at Australian Unity, providing high-quality legal advice across regulatory, operational, transactional, and compliance matters. Your insights will help drive strategic and commercial success while ensuring the highest standards of governance and care for our residents.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Strategic Legal Counsel: Provide timely, independent, and commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of issues affecting the RAC business.
- Regulatory & Compliance Expertise: Guide the implementation of governance, legislative, and compliance requirements for aged care providers.
- Risk & Dispute Management: Support responses to regulatory inquiries, complex disputes, and litigation to achieve the best outcomes for Australian Unity.
- Contract Negotiation & Advisory: Draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements, including service contracts, procurement deals, IT agreements, and property leases.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with key business leaders to balance legal risk with commercial objectives, ensuring smooth decision-making processes.
- Property Support: Advise on leasing, property management, and redevelopment projects, ensuring alignment with legal and business priorities.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify operational efficiencies and governance enhancements based on past legal experience.
About You:
- Tertiary qualifications in law
- 8 or more years of relevant experience in private practice or an in-house legal function
- Admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory
- Current practicing certificate
- A sound understanding of legislative and compliance requirements and their application and effect upon business operations
- Experience in managing legal support staff or junior lawyers
- Experience dealing with senior management and regulators
- Excellent project management, writing and presentation skills
