The Opportunity
As a Full Stack Developer within the PHI function, you’ll play a critical role in delivering secure, scalable and operationally stable software solutions that create genuine business value. Working as part of a wider cross-functional team, you’ll help analyse requirements, design systems, solve complex technical problems and contribute to building high-quality digital experiences that support Australian Unity’s purpose and customers.
You’ll bring strong software engineering capability along with a collaborative mindset and a passion for continuous improvement. This role offers the opportunity to mentor others, influence technical direction, champion development best practice and help shape resilient solutions that support our evolving digital landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Software Engineering Delivery
- Design, develop, test and deploy secure, scalable and operationally stable software solutions as part of a cross-functional team.
- Apply strong engineering judgement to solve complex business and technical problems.
- Contribute to accurate estimation, planning and delivery of technology initiatives.
- Champion continuous improvement across codebases, deployment pipelines and monitoring practices.
Development Best Practice
- Promote coding standards, peer reviews, fit-for-purpose documentation and engineering excellence.
- Support and mentor peers and junior engineers to uplift team capability and quality outcomes.
- Stay current with emerging engineering practices, tools and security threats, applying relevant learnings where appropriate.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Build trusted relationships across technology teams, project teams and business stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership through proofs of concept, option analysis and practical design guidance.
- Communicate issues, dependencies and delivery risks clearly and proactively.
Risk, Compliance & Ways of Working
- Adhere to risk, compliance, governance and workplace health and safety obligations.
- Act in alignment with Australian Unity’s values and ways of working, taking ownership and supporting others through change.
Fixed Term Contract: Please note this is a 1-year fixed term contract.
You will bring:
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related discipline
- 8+ years commercial software development experience in full-stack roles
- Strong experience in front-end development: react, JavaScript, HTML, CSS
- Strong experience in Backend development in .NET, Java or similar
- Experience building and consuming APIs (REST, GraphQL)
- Experience with modern architectures including mircoservices, API-first and headless approaches
- Experience with CMS/DMP Platforms (ie. Sitecore, AEM, Contentful)
- Cloud platform experience (Azure, AWS or similar), CI/CD pipelines and automation, Docker/Kubernetes desirable
- Deep understanding and ability in designing secure, scalable and operationally stable solutions
- Working knowledge of documentation, coding, testing and deployment using multiple development languages and platforms
- Demonstrably strong understanding of design patterns
