About the Opportunity:

Join our Technology team as a Senior Data Steward.

As we continue to strengthen our enterprise-wide data governance capability, this role will play a key part in uplifting how Australian Unity identifies, manages and protects critical data across the organisation.

Working within our Data Governance team, you’ll help operationalise our Information Governance Framework and embed effective data stewardship, data quality and data risk management practices across the enterprise. Acting as a trusted governance partner to Data Domain Owners, System Owners and business stakeholders, you’ll support the quality, integrity, security and lifecycle management of our most critical information assets.

A key focus of the role will be supporting enterprise data mapping, improving data quality and engaging with senior stakeholders - including executive-level technology leaders - to drive stronger governance, privacy, security and regulatory outcomes.

In this role, you will lead and support key activities across:

  • Data Governance & Risk: Partner with business and technology stakeholders to embed data governance frameworks, policies and standards, drive accountability for data ownership and stewardship, and identify/escalate data risks.
  • Data Quality Excellence: Develop and monitor data quality rules, scorecards and governance metrics, analyse trends, support root-cause investigations and coordinate remediation activities.
  • Critical Data Management: Support the identification, documentation and governance of Critical Data Elements/CRDEs, metadata, data dictionaries, data lineage, data flows and governance artefacts.
  • Data Lifecycle & Compliance: Support governance activities across data retention, archival, destruction and de-identification, while helping business units meet privacy, information governance and regulatory obligations.
  • Stakeholder Leadership: Facilitate governance workshops and stakeholder forums, build trusted relationships across business and technology teams, and promote data literacy, governance awareness and stewardship capability.

About You:

You are a highly collaborative, articulate governance professional who combines strategic thinking with practical delivery experience. You can translate data governance and risk concepts into clear business language, influence senior stakeholders and support accountability across business and technology teams.

You will bring:

  • Proven ability to engage with senior stakeholders, including executive or CTO-level leaders
  • Hands-on operational experience implementing governance practices, policies and standards

  • Exposure to data lineage, metadata management, Critical Data Elements or data lifecycle management
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to lead workshops, translate business requirements into practical outcomes and influence decision-making across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Enterprise experience in a large, complex or regulated organisation, ideally health insurance, financial services, insurance, banking, superannuation or similar
  • Exposure to APRA CPS 234, APRA CPG 235, Privacy Impact Assessments
