Your New Role Looks Like This:
At Australian Unity, our Portfolio Solutions team is trusted to manage and advise on multi-asset class, liability-driven, and regulated balance sheet portfolios across a diverse range of entities — including Australian Unity Limited, Australian Unity Health, Australian Unity Funds Management, Lifeplan Australia Friendly Society, and Australian Unity Trustees.
Operating as part of the Office of the Chief Investment Officer, we partner across the business to design and deliver tailored, customer-focused investment solutions that meet complex client objectives. With approximately $3 billion in assets under management, our work blends strategic thinking with precision execution.
Why this role exists
This opportunity has arisen due to the exciting growth of our team, following:
- The acquisition and integration of the $1.1 billion IOOF friendly society (merged with Lifeplan)
- Strengthened governance frameworks for our $1 billion corporate investment portfolio
- An expansion of outsourced investment management relationships and oversight responsibilities since 2023
As a Portfolio Analyst, you’ll support the Senior Portfolio Manager and Senior Portfolio Analyst in making and implementing informed investment decisions. Your day-to-day will combine analytical modelling, cashflow management, trade execution, and critical reporting to ensure our portfolios deliver on their performance, risk, and compliance objectives.
You’ll have the opportunity to work across a variety of investment strategies, regulatory frameworks, and asset classes — building your expertise while contributing to solutions that truly matter to our members and stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing
- Maintain and enhance financial and investment models, including:
- Portfolio cashflow/liquidity
- Short- and long-term investment return and risk
- Prudential capital requirements
- Monitor and review portfolio cash positions/client cashflow patters and deposit maturities and re-investment opportunities
- Recommend and, where delegated, instruct investment transactions across portfolios
- Assist senior team members to:
- Validate and analyse portfolio investment returns
- Prepare and deliver client reports, fund updates, and attestations
- Engage with external managers to ensure compliance with portfolio requirements and constraints
- Provide portfolio metrics to Risk & Compliance and review manager policies for alignment with AU’s standards
About You:
- Degree qualified in finance / commerce. Progress towards post-graduate investment management qualifications (such as CIMA, Masters or CFA) highly regarded.
- 3-5 years’ investment experience, within an investment advisory, investment management, investment strategy, investment risk and/or manager-of-managers environment, working for a leading asset consultant, insurer, superannuation fund, retail multi-manager platform or asset manager.
- Well established verbal and written communication skills, coupled with demonstrable quantitative analysis capability.
- Highly regarded: proficiency in the use of financial markets investment and analysis tools such as Bloomberg / Thinkfolio / Factset / etc.
- Highly regarded: experience in asset allocation management, investment manager analysis and selection, and multi-asset portfolio analysis / management.
