Your New Role Looks Like This:
Play a key role in shaping successful transformation across Australian Unity
As we continue to transform and grow, we’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Manager, Project Assurance to join our Internal Audit team.
You’ll work closely with transformation leaders, project sponsors, and the EPMO to provide proactive, independent insights that help ensure our most significant projects deliver the right outcomes, the right way.
You’ll lead and deliver assurance and advisory reviews over high-impact programs, strategic initiatives, and enterprise-wide transformations — from digital innovation and regulatory uplift to infrastructure modernisation and systems implementation.
You’ll also be instrumental in building a transformation assurance capability from the ground up — establishing frameworks, tools, and methodologies that embed assurance as a value-adding part of our change journey.
With visibility across the enterprise and the opportunity to influence outcomes at the highest level, this role is perfect for a confident, strategic leader who thrives in complex environments and is passionate about helping transformation succeed.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the design and delivery of project and program assurance reviews, tailored to key enterprise initiatives.
- Develop and embed a transformation assurance framework, including review methodologies, tools, and reporting standards.
- Shape the annual assurance plan using a risk-based approach to identify and prioritise projects for review.
- Conduct reviews across the full project lifecycle — from health checks and gateway reviews to continuous assurance and post-implementation evaluations.
- Assess governance, planning, resource management, risk and issue controls, change management, and benefits realisation.
- Provide real-time, constructive insights to transformation teams to help mitigate issues early and improve delivery outcomes.
- Build strong relationships with the EPMO, project sponsors, technology teams, and senior executives — acting as a trusted yet independent advisor.
- Leverage agile and data-driven audit techniques to increase responsiveness and impact.
- Ensure assurance work is documented in line with professional audit standards and internal quality expectations.
- Prepare clear, actionable reports that focus on root causes and practical recommendations.
- Monitor and follow up on the implementation of agreed actions, escalating where necessary to ensure accountability.
- Mentor and coach audit team members involved in project assurance reviews, supporting their development in both audit and project management disciplines.
- Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration across the Internal Audit function.
- Support broader strategic initiatives and help foster a culture of curiosity, integrity, and high performance.
About You
You’re a strategic thinker with deep experience in project, program, or transformation assurance — and you know how to ask the right questions, influence decision-makers, and guide teams to stronger outcomes. You’re just as confident leading a post-implementation review as you are sitting alongside transformation leaders and helping to shape assurance approaches in real time.
You’ll also bring:
- Extensive experience (6-8 years) in project/program assurance, internal audit, PMO governance, or transformation risk.
- Relevant certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, MSP, CIA, or CPA are highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of project delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid), governance frameworks, and change management.
- The ability to assess complex initiatives with a balanced lens on risk, delivery, and strategic alignment.
- A proven track record of influencing stakeholders, providing value-adding insights, and driving action.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and business audiences.
- A collaborative, curious mindset with a focus on integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Experience leading and developing team members and contributing to strategic initiatives.
