About the Opportunity:
The Manager, Internal Audit - Home Health, Residential Aged Care & Retirement Communities (HH, RAC & RC) plays a key leadership role within the Group Internal Audit function, responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing internal audit engagements to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management practices, and governance processes.
This role ensures audits are conducted in compliance with applicable standards and adds value by identifying opportunities for operational improvement, cost reduction, and risk mitigation across Australian Unity’s aged care services, including home health, residential aged care, clinical care, and retirement living.
This role reports to the Head of Internal Audit, HH, RAC & RC and is expected to consistently deliver high quality audits, clear insights, and practical recommendations, while mentoring less experienced auditors and contributing to the continuous uplift of the internal audit function
What You’ll Be Doing
Annual Audit Planning
- Support the development of the annual risk-based internal audit plan, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and regulatory requirements.
- Perform regular risk assessments to identify key areas of focus and emerging risks across the organization.
Lead and executive internal audit reviews
- Lead the planning, execution, and reporting of risk-based internal audits across business units and functions.
- Develop audit scopes, objectives, and work programs, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Manage end-to-end audit engagements, including scoping, fieldwork, reporting, and follow-up.
- Assess the effectiveness of internal controls, governance processes, and risk management practices.

- Lead audit teams in identifying root causes of control weaknesses and developing practical, value-adding recommendations.
- Ensure all audit work complies with internal methodologies and professional standards (e.g., IIA Standards, COSO).
- Use data analytics and technology tools to enhance audit coverage and insights where applicable.
- Prepare clear, concise, and impactful audit reports for senior stakeholders and the Audit Committee, as needed.
- Oversee the tracking and validation of management action plans to ensure timely remediation of findings
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulatory changes, and internal audit best practices.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and risk awareness across the organization.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with Business Leaders across the HH, RAC & RC Functions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business to promote a culture of transparency and continuous improvement.
- Engage business leaders early in the audit process to understand objectives, risks, and expectations.
- Present audit findings and recommendations in a clear and constructive manner, tailored to audience needs.
- Provide insight and challenge in strategic discussions where risk and control are relevant.

About you
You are an analytical, proactive Internal Audit professional with experience in leading and executing end-to-end internal audits, including those over complex governance, risk and control compliance obligations. You enjoy improving processes, using data to solve problems, and helping stakeholders understand internal audit in a clear, accessible way. Furthermore, you will have some leadership and team management experience with good stakeholder influencing and relationship development skills with a focus on innovation and a continuous improvement mindset.
You will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Health or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Relevant professional qualifications such as CA, CPA, CIA, CISA, or CIPS or equivalent is required.
- Minimum 6- 8 years of internal or external audit experience or relevant compliance or risk function. Experience in leadership or supervisory capacity is a plus.
- Exposure to home health and aged care sector is desirable but not essential.
- Strong knowledge of internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO), risk assessment methodologies, and audit standards
- Experience with data analytics, and audit management software is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience auditing financial controls and financial reporting processes.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with senior stakeholders.
- Experience working in or auditing large, complex and highly regulated organisations.
