As a Legal Counsel within our Wealth & Capital Markets (W&CM) platform, you’ll provide high-quality, commercially-minded legal advice that supports our growth, innovation, and purpose-led approach.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative, high-performing legal team, where your work will directly influence strategic outcomes across our Funds and AU Life businesses. In this role, you’ll gain exposure to complex, high-value work in a supportive and flexible environment. You’ll help shape how our Wealth & Capital Markets platform grows and adapts in a fast-changing regulatory landscape—while making a real difference for our members and clients.
What You Will Be Doing:
As Legal Counsel, you’ll be a trusted advisor to the W&CM leadership and operational teams, delivering legal solutions that balance commercial outcomes with compliance and customer focus. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing clear, practical legal advice across a wide variety of matters, particularly in relation to managed funds, investment products, and regulatory compliance.
- Supporting the development, maintenance and governance of fund structures, including new product establishment, consolidation, and decommissioning.
- Reviewing and advising on disclosure materials (PDSs, TMDs) and marketing content to manage legal risk and protect the interests of members and clients.
- Advising on compliance incidents and ASIC-reportable breaches, in collaboration with Risk & Compliance teams.
- Supporting transactions, including legal due diligence, risk identification, and contract negotiation across debt and equity fund structuring.
- Drafting and reviewing a wide range of commercial agreements and legal documentation.
- Contributing to regulatory engagement, including preparing submissions and managing responses to investigations or complaints.
- Monitoring and responding to legal and regulatory changes (e.g. APRA, ASIC), particularly impacting the Advice business.
- Supporting dispute resolution, litigation and claim management in a way that protects Australian Unity’s interests.
- Recommending improvements to legal templates, processes, and risk management frameworks.
About You:
- A commercial mindset with strong technical legal skills and sound judgment.
- The ability to distil complexity into clear advice, tailored to different audiences.
- Deep knowledge of financial services law and regulation, including managed funds, investment bonds, and ASIC/APRA requirements.
- Experience balancing legal risk with business priorities in a way that drives pragmatic outcomes.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills—you’re proactive, collaborative, and confident engaging with senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality work.
- A proactive, curious approach to law and regulation—you stay ahead of change and help the business do the same.
