The Opportunity:

An opportunity has arisen for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our Group Legal & Governance team. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a broad range of legal matters while partnering with senior stakeholders throughout the organisation, including Technology, Finance & Strategy, People & Culture, Customer & Marketing, Company Secretariat and the CEO Office.

As Legal Counsel, you'll provide commercially focused legal advice that supports Australian Unity's strategic objectives while appropriately managing legal and regulatory risk. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to deliver practical solutions and help drive strong governance outcomes.

What you’ll be doing:

• Providing timely and pragmatic legal advice across a broad range of commercial and corporate matters.
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, including technology, software, cloud, procurement and supplier contracts.
• Advising on privacy, data use, information security, intellectual property, marketing and consumer law matters.
• Supporting governance initiatives, including policies, delegations, constitutions, board charters and corporate approvals.
• Assisting with strategic projects, corporate restructures, due diligence activities and transaction-related workstreams.
• Supporting the implementation and ongoing use of AI-enabled legal technology and continuous improvement initiatives within the legal function.

About You:

You're an Australian qualified lawyer with 3 – 7 post-qualification experience, gained in either private practice, an in-house environment, or a combination of both.

You enjoy partnering with the business and providing practical, commercially focused advice that helps stakeholders make confident decisions. You've had exposure to drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements and are comfortable managing matters independently while recognising when to seek guidance on more complex issues.

You'll be someone who can simplify complex legal concepts, build strong relationships and balance legal risk with commercial outcomes. Experience across commercial contracts, technology, procurement, privacy, governance or broader corporate matters will be highly regarded.

Most importantly, you're curious, collaborative and proactive, with an interest in continuous improvement and the opportunities emerging technologies and AI can bring to legal service delivery.
