Your New Role Looks Like This:

Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for delivering high-impact legal advice? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment where your work directly supports the wellbeing of older Australians?

We’re looking for a dynamic Legal Counsel to join our Residential Aged Care (RAC) Governance team on a 12 month fixed term contract. In this role, you’ll be a trusted advisor, providing sharp, commercially-minded legal guidance across regulatory, operational, transactional, and compliance matters. Your work will help shape the future of aged care services while aligning with the strategic goals of Australian Unity’s RAC business.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Deliver timely, high-quality legal advice that balances commercial outcomes with regulatory integrity
  • Guide the implementation of compliance, legislative, and governance frameworks for approved aged care providers
  • Support responses to regulatory inquiries and manage dispute resolution processes
  • Build a deep understanding of our business principles, customer needs, and family expectations
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and competing priorities with professionalism and clarity
  • Apply legal practice management techniques to stay focused, organised, and responsive
  • Collaborate with senior leaders on legal and governance projects that drive meaningful change
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts—from procurement and consultancy to IT and joint ventures
  • Provide legal risk analysis during due diligence and transactional execution
  • Improve legal templates and processes to enhance efficiency and reduce risk
  • Lead the resolution of claims and disputes with a focus on pragmatic, effective outcomes
  • Identify operational improvements based on lessons learned from litigation and regulatory matters
  • Stay ahead of regulatory developments and advise on their impact to RAC operations
  • Oversee regulatory complaints and investigations when required
  • Contribute to advocacy efforts by interpreting draft legislation and shaping submissions to regulators and industry bodies

About You:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in law
  • 3-5 year of relevant experience in a private practice or an in-house legal function
  • Admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory with a current practice certificate
  • A sound understanding of legislative and compliance requirements and their application and effect upon business operations
  • Aged care, litigation and dispute resolution experience will be highly valued
  • Excellent project management, writing and presentation skills
  • Initiative, enthusiasm, teamwork and an ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment
