Your New Role Looks Like This

The Legal Counsel will deliver high quality and commercially-focused legal services, aligned to the strategic and commercial drivers of the Banking and Insurances businesses, with a focus on the Banking business. You will be part of the Legal, Risk & Compliance team, reporting to the General Manager Legal, Risk & Compliance.

As part of this role key responsibilities include:

• Provision of high quality and commercially-focused legal advice on a wide range of matters affecting the Banking business including the operational, credit, broker and finance teams.
• Providing product and marketing legal support including drafting terms and conditions, advising on new product launches and other queries related to retail products.
• Advising on consumer law and privacy law in relation to advertising and marketing of Australian Unity Bank’s products and promotions
• Driving the adoption of streamlined and compliant contractual processes and documentation that satisfy business needs, whilst appropriately managing legal risk
• Managing and resolve claims, disputes and litigation in a manner that produces efficient and effective outcomes that are in Australian Unity's best interests.
• Demonstrating an understanding of applicable regulations and their impact, or potential impact, on the Banking and Insurances businesses
• Utilising stakeholder management skills to establish positive and cooperative working relationships with staff throughout Australian Unity.

What we are looking for

• Tertiary education in law coupled with a current practicing certificate in Australia.
• 3-5 years’ relevant experience in private practice or an in-house legal function.
• Relevant experience in retail banking, insurance, contract law, consumer law, privacy law and regulatory engagement will be an advantage.
• Demonstrated high level attention to detail and excellent communication skills (oral and written).
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and legal project management skills.
• Strong communication, collaborative and relationship management skills.
