About the opportunity
Due to a paternity leave in our team we now have an exciting vacancy for a Head of Risk, Compliance & Quality Assurance.
Reporting into the GM, Legal, Risk, Compliance & Quality Assurance for the Home Health & Residential Aged Care (RAC) platform, this senior leadership role is integral in leading the application of Australian Unity’s risk, compliance and quality assurance frameworks and the delivery of high-quality, proactive and pragmatic advice and services across the Home Health and Residential Aged Care platforms.
The role includes providing oversight, constructive challenge, independent monitoring, and actionable advice on risk management and compliance with obligations across aged care and clinical health, including quality standards. A key focus of the role is to drive the development of a mature and integrated risk, compliance, and quality culture across Home Health and Residential Aged Care.
This is a fixed term full time opportunity until March 2026
What you will deliver
- Lead, coach and mentor the Home Health and Residential Aged Care Risk & Compliance and Quality Assurance teams
- Provide clear direction and oversight to ensure the enterprise risk management framework and quality assurance programs are effectively and consistently applied within Home Health and Residential Aged Care.
- Lead the development and provision of insightful, data-driven reporting on risk, compliance, and quality assurance trends to inform strategic decisions at board, executive and senior leadership levels.
- Regularly review and enhance the quality of reports, presentations, and communications to ensure alignment with executive and board expectations.
- Oversee & manage the planning, setting, and monitoring of an annual governance and review calendar.
- Regularly review and enhance the quality and impact of monitoring programs, including KCIs, CSAs and ICTs, ensuring controls are robust, pragmatic, and effective.
- Leverage assurance activity outcomes to provide the business with actionable insights for treatment plans and continuous improvement.
- Facilitate the investigation and responses to escalated serious incidents, complaints and coronial instigations.
- Build trusted relationships with Executive GMs, GMs, and other senior leaders, providing pragmatic and expert advice on risk, compliance, and quality.
- Influence business leaders to embed risk appetite, risk assessments, and compliance obligations, including quality standards, into strategic decision-making
- Actively monitor the regulatory environment, ensuring timely identification and notification of changes impacting business strategy and operations.
- Support Home Health and Residential Aged Care to develop and execute gap analyses and action plans for implementing regulatory changes.
- Role model the aspired Leadership behaviors to source, lead, develop and retain high quality team members aligned to the Australian Unity culture
Experience And Capabilities
- Relevant qualifications, preferably with at least 10-15 years’ experience in legal, risk, compliance or audit related discipline
- A sound understanding of legislative and compliance requirements and their application and effect upon business operations
- Industry experience relevant to Australian Unity’s business portfolios or a strong working knowledge of Aged Care or health services legal and regulatory frameworks would be very highly regarded
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and motivating a team, with experience of leading and influencing through change and working agilely in complex environments
- Extensive experience working in the health industry with the ability to build strong relationships to drive scale and growth.
- Strong working knowledge of Quality Standards, community aged care and/or community health care accreditation frameworks.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and management, with communication, analytical and problem-solving skills operational leadership
- High standard of professionalism, ethics, honesty, confidentiality and discretion
