About the Role
Australian Unity is seeking a highly strategic and visionary leader to join our Wealth & Capital Markets Leadership Team as EGM Property Funds Management & Chief Investment Officer.
This pivotal role leads 45 investment professionals and oversees circa $15billion of investment assets. This includes $4bn of health care property, as well as a number of specialist investment businesses along with the Group’s investment portfolio on behalf of Australian Unity Life (investment bonds) and Australian Unity Health insurance businesses.
As EGM & CIO, you will drive the commercial strategy for Funds Management, ensuring the effective development and delivery of strategic, investment, and people outcomes. You will also oversee Australian Unity’s investment activities, ensuring they align with Board-approved policies and reflect the organisation’s risk appetite.
The role reports to the CEO Wealth & Capital Markets (W&CM) with a dotted line to the Australian Unity Limited Board Investment Committee.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Strategy, Growth and Execution:

- Formulate and execute the Funds Management commercial strategy to deliver growth and competitive advantage across all investment businesses.
- Develop and monitor P&L budgets and investment strategies to achieve revenue and profitability targets.
- Manage Joint Venture relationships, including governance, contractual arrangements, and performance outcomes.
- Provide strategic advice to the Board and Group Executive on investment policies, asset allocation, and risk management frameworks.
- Investment Oversight & Risk Management

- Oversee investment activities across equities, fixed interest, property, foreign exchange, derivatives, and liquidity portfolios, ensuring compliance with policy and governance standards.
- Manage investment risk, market risk, and liquidity risk for Australian Unity’s balance sheet portfolios, including monitoring market volatility and interest rate impacts.
- Under delegated authority, make investment decisions on behalf of the Group and clients within Board-approved limits.
- Design and manage balance sheet asset portfolios and trustee investment portfolios in line with agreed objectives.
- Governance & Compliance

- Establish robust investment processes, delegations, and guidelines for portfolio management and derivative use.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, risk, and governance obligations, safeguarding client assets and organisational integrity.
- Lead the Board Investment Committee agenda and enhance its oversight capabilities.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Business Development

- Within the agreed platform CRM approach, and working closely with the Customer and Institutional sales teams, build and actively maintain relationships with key clients, Joint Venture partners, market participants, government, industry, Australian Unity and community leaders to create strategic partnerships that drive new business opportunities

Key Experience & Capabilities
We are seeking a proven leader with:
- Extensive Funds Management Expertise:

- Deep experience across investment and portfolio management, combined with commercial and business leadership within a funds management environment. Experience in property fund management is essential.
- Demonstrated success in managing multi-asset portfolios, including equities, fixed income, property, and alternative investments.
- Strategic & Commercial Leadership:
-
- Strong track record in developing and executing growth strategies for investment businesses with at least 15 years’ experience in a senior leadership role.
- Experience in driving transformation and delivering sustainable financial performance as well as managing high calibre teams in excess of circa 60 FTEs.
- Governance & Risk Management:
-
- Comprehensive understanding of investment risk, market risk, and liquidity risk frameworks.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain robust compliance and governance structures.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
-
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with institutional clients, JV partners, regulators, and industry bodies.
- Highly skilled in influencing at Board and Executive levels.
- Financial & Analytical Acumen:

- Strong strategic and financial skills, with exposure to legal, governance, and project management disciplines.
- Qualifications:
-
- Master’s qualification in Business, Strategy, Finance, or equivalent (desirable).
